Can CBD Help with Arthritis?

Enthusiasts of CBD rave about the substance’s health benefits. Studies have revealed that CBD could be a remedy for anxiety.  Other studies show it helps children with post-traumatic stress disorder get to sleep. In the US, CBD was FDA-approved last year as a prescription drug to deal with rare, severe forms of epilepsy.

Can CBD help people with arthritis and similar diseases cope with suffering? The science is developing and we need more research. Yet, anecdotal reports from patients and some preliminary research suggest yes.

You need to work with your doctor to incorporate CBD into your arthritis treatment plan. CBD is a chemical found derived from hemp. Hemp and marijuana are both types of cannabis plants. But they differ from each other. They both have substances found in the cannabis plant. Yet, each has different quantities of various phytocannabinoids.

  • Marijuana has a bounty of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). The THC is the cannabinoid that gets you high.

  • Hemp contains fewer than 0.3 percent THC. It contains CBD, which is a cannabinoid that doesn’t have any psychoactive effects. CBD cannot make you feel high. CBD works with your endocannabinoid system. That system is a group of receptors in the body.

“Cannabinoids can inhibit or excite the release of neurotransmitters [brain chemicals] and play a role in modulating the body’s natural inflammatory response,” says Hervé Damas, MD, a Miami-based physician.

They understand that CBD works on pain in two parts of the body. It works. on the site of soreness, such as your joints. It also works on the central nervous system. The central nervous system sends pain signals to the brain. Here it detects certain stimulation or damage to nerves and cells.

CBD’s ability to calm that response makes the compound a viable pain remedy for people with arthritis.

Besides, CBD has anti-inflammatory properties. Inflammation occurs when your body is fighting a perceived infection. For example, rheumatoid arthritis. It is an autoimmune disease. The immune system is attacking healthy parts of your body like your joints. CDB may help relieve symptoms.

Prior research on animals has shown promise for CBD. We need more research before we can draw anything conclusive for humans.

But, people who have incorporated CBD into their arthritis treatment have positive results.

CBD could be worth exploring as a potential solution to the pain. As part of an arthritis treatment plan, discuss this with a medical professional.
